Thornburgh men carried on from where they left off on Day 2 beating St Lukes 18-4. Tries went to Errol Miller, Callum Brown and Reece Wallace, with Harold Gallasch converting his 2 kicks and Callum Brown kicking his 1 kick. Man of the Match was Reece Wallace.
After coming first in their pool, the BTC boys had to play against St Columban's in the first of the games in the Plate Division. St Columban's came out firing posting first points leaving BTC to play catch up. BTC played well in the second half.....winning the half but not quite catching up to St Columban's earlier points. BTC went down 16-8 with Roy Fisher named the Man of the Match. While the BTC team are out of the Plate contention now, they will be giving their best in the remaining two games. Callum Brown could be out with a shoulder injury and Errol Miller was not walking on foot very well. The team deserves a well earned rest tomorrow to try and gather their strength.
After a much needed rest day the Thornburgh lads lined up against St Lukes. Even with some of the boys carrying injuries they took to the field ready to do their best. St Luke's posted the first points with BTC matching it. After a hard fought games both teams were on 12 points. Unfortunately the win went on who posted the first points which was St Lukes. Good game boys, you played well with tries to Reece Wallace and Brennan Leggett. Harold Gallasch converted both and Man of the Match went to Reece Wallace.
The final day and what a great, nail biting, heart stopping game. The Thornburgh boys took to the field against St Patricks Shorncliffe. The opposition was the first to post some points but Roy Fisher charged over the line to post BTC's first points. With a kick from Danny Rayment, Darcy Ginns Larkin took off and caught the Shorncliffe boys napping. After gathering the kicked ball he sped down the field with Danny Rayment supporting. A quick pass back to Danny and he scooted over the line. After Errol Miller intercepted Shorncliffe's pass and raced down the field to plant the ball under the post Harold Gallasch converted. The Thornburgh boys were looking good. Unfortunately Shorncliffe hit back and with about 10 minutes to go BTC were down by 4 points. The huge crowd of supporters were getting slightly nervous, especially when 2 BTC tries were called as knocked on and forward pass before Shorncliffe took off down to their try line. Great defence from BTC and penalties against the opposition saw and the ball come back to Thornburgh's try line, before Callum Brown burst through the defence to place the ball behind the posts to allow a good conversion by Harold. BTC up by 2 points with a few minutes to go. The icing on the cake was when Harold pushed through the opposition's defence to dive over the try line. Toby Paynter converted on the full time hooter with the Thornburgh Men winning 28-20. Great game with Errol Miller named Man of the Match.
Thank you gifts were given to Adam Bowden, Jack Francis, Max Batt and Cameron Batt. A big thank you to Sponsors Cardno Bowler for the playing gear, the Batt family for the BTC bucket hats, to Mr Fairbairn and all the supporters. Congratulations to Callum Brown for being the Thornburgh Player of the Carnival.
