Junior School Become Better Readers

As part of the focus on Literacy in Junior School students are learning that to be a good reader they need to read a wide range  of reading material . Teachers presented some of the things they had been reading which included such items as picture books, newspapers, train tickets (in Italian) maps, recipes, books, kindles, i phone, travel brochures, lotto tickets , signs and photos. Students have been asked to find at least 2 different types of reading they do at home.  These will be shared between the students before being  classified into  different types of reading eg multi-modal, online, print, non print, visual. The long term aim of the sessions is to encourage students to develop a wider range  when reading and eventually share what they are reading within small groups so as to entice others to try reading different genre and forms.
