Secondary Interschool Athletics

 Day 1. In the first event of the day, hurdles,  BTC started very strongly, with Jesse Santo and Teah Schaeffer claiming 1st and 2nd  while Adagi Lifu and Allen Rau claimed 1st and 3rd. Other good results in the hurdles went to Darcy Ginns Larkin, Errol Miller and Merial Kenni.  Jarrah Gough claimed a 1st in the 14 yrs discus.
Day 2. First event of the day was the 400m.Jessee Santo  and Karl Knuth raced to win a 2nd place  in their respective events. The students then split up and went to their various field events.  In the High Jump  13 yrs Adagi Lifu came 2nd and Jessee Santo jumped to 1st ,  in the 16yrs  BTC got the double with Darcy Ginns Larkin claiming 1st and Kael Morrissey  2nd. In the Shot Put  Morgan Rockley threw a 1st and Callum Brown a 2nd for their last Athletics Carnival. Brittney Lifu threw a new record of 9.36m  in the 14yrs girls while Jon Russo also claimed a 1st in the 15yrs.The 16yrs boys saw Zac Wilson claim a 2nd and Brennan Leggett a 3rd. Long Jump Takumi Kuwajima leapt to 1st place in the 14yrs as did Jessee Santo in 13yrs girls. 13 yrs boys BTC Claimed the double again with Allen Rau 1st and Adagi Lifu 2nd. In the 16yrs girls Merial  Kenni jumped to 2nd place.  In the Discus, John Russo produced a 3rd place throw. In the Triple Jump13yr boys claimed the double again with Allen Rau 1st and Adagi Lifu 2nd while not to be outdone the 13yrs girls saw Jesse Santo 1st and Teah Schaeffer 3rd.  Open Boys Reece Wallace leapt to a 3rd as did Takumi Kuwajima who also claimed 3rd in the14 yrs boys. In the final field event, Javelin, open Boy Roy fisher had a bad run up on his last throw but still claimed a 4th . 15 yrs girls saw Tanay Lifu throw a record 25.59m to claim 1st while Madi Smith claimed 3rd.

 In the 200m race 13 yrs Jessee Santo dominated the race to grab the 1st ribbon to add to her growing collection, while Allen Rau raced to 3rd. Takumi Kuwajimi  powered his way to 1st in the 14yrs boys while Jarod " do I have to run" Holroyd ran a terrific race to cross. 1st in the 15 yrs boys, ( Just as well Mr Innes talked you into running, Jarod)  In the 16 yrs, Merial dug deep for a 4th while Karl Knuth raced to claim a  3rd place. In the Open Boys Reece Wallace  ran a spirited race to cross 2nd.

In the blue ribbon sprint events , 13yrs Jessee Santo took off like a bolt of lightening to leave her closest competitor 20m behind her to run away with 1st place. Allan Rau ran a great 3rd place in the 13yrs boys. In the 14yrs Takumi Kuwajima  claimed 3rd while 15 yrs Jarod Holroyd bolted away for the win in his race. Open Boys Reece Wallace, powered down the track to claim 3rd.

In the final individual event , the gruelling 800m, Sophie Mc Laren ran a great race to claim 2nd in the 13yrs girls while in the 14 yrs girls, Evie Batt  claimed a 2nd place , while Maddie Aitchison crossed 4th. In the 16 yrs girls Rachael Dahl came 3rd while in the 16yrs boys Karl Knuth came 2nd.

The relays are also a time for lots of team cheering. In the 13yrs girls , they were cheered on to a 2nd place while the 14yrs girls grabbed a 3rd place. 16 yrs girls and boys both ran a 3rd placing. The Open Girls also ran a 3rd place. The Open Boys took off fast around the bend, the change was good , they kept powering way. Not all teams had a clean change. The boys ran a great race to cross ahead of ASSG and CTSHS. The BTC boys were twice as excited to hear the CCC team did not have a good baton change which meant they were the winners!
1st in the final relay race of the day. Well done boys!

At the end of the day Jessee Santo was a deserved 13 yrs Age Champion  with 13 yrs  Adagi Lifu and  16 yrs Karl Knuth as Runner Up Age Champions.

Everywhere Men (  Competing in the sprints, the distance races and the field events) were 1st Reece Wallace, followed closely by Adagi Lifu, Allan Rau and Karl Knuth. Well done boys. You show great BTC spirit!!!

Overall the BTC team came 3rd in all the trophies. Well done to all competitors who put their hand up to compete. It is not always about winning it is about always doing your best and representing your College. GO IT BLUE!


BTC students selected in the Charters Towers team to compete at NQ  Trials on 7th September are Reece Wallace (200m), Darcy Ginns Larkin (High Jump), Jarod Holroyd (100m) ,Tanay Lifu (Javelin), Jessee Santo ( 100m, 200m, Long Jump, Triple Jump,High Jump, Hurdles) . Good luck!
