Rugby Tenz

The College was abuzz....the annual Rugby Tenz was upon us. The girls began buying mouthguards, borrowing head gear and training in tackling, rucks and mauls . BTC once again fielded teams in all age divisions in the competition. All teams started well with no losses in the first round. The Open Boys played extremely well against CTSHS, the 13's also had a convincing win  and the 15's also won against the High School teams. The Open Girls lined up against ASSG and kept them in their half for most of the game.  a runaway try for ASSG went against the flow of play to see ASSG up but in the dying minutes of the game Merial charged at the try line and ran around the opposition to see the final score 5 all.
Second round of games saw some mixed results with only the Open Boys posting another convincing win, although on a count back  of for and against points, the 13 boys also made it through to the Final.
Down a few players, the 13's played a good attacking game against CCC and defended well but CCC just managed to sneak ahead. Good game boys.
In the Open Boys  Final, the team  that went in as the underdogs ( according to the Miner) played well. They went out firing and posted the first points on the board against CCC. Later in the first half CCC fought back to level the scores at half time. The scores stayed locked with most of the play being down near BTC's line. They continually hammered it keeping good ball possession  and good controlled play. In the last seconds of the game CCC grabbed the loose ball which came off a BTC player and scooted away to  claim the game. BTC boys you should be proud of how you played, you were extremely unlucky and most deserved to win.......definitely not the underdogs! Well done to your sportsmanship  and  a great game. Congratulations to Toby Paynter for winning Open Boys Competition's Best Player.
